English Pub / Club / Restaurant Reviews

In East London

The Standard Music Venue
Blackhorse Road, Walthamstow, London, E17

(Public House & Auditorium)

Reviewed by Bubbles and Flaps Up

This pub counts itself 'East London's Premier Music Venue'.

But lets face it guys, its East London's ONLY music venue. Divided into two parts, the Tryst Bar is a fairly conventional bar; bright stainless steel with a pool table while next to this is the main auditorium.

The main auditorium has a large stage area where tribute bands and the regular indie / rock clubs are a permanent feature. However, back in the days when it was frequently visited by Bubbles & Flaps Up (circa 1998-2000) it was East London's premiere dive!

Prior to renovation into the swanky venue you see today, it compromised a dull and dingy pub area, which had definitely seen better days. Complete with a minging pool table and leather clad biker types (equally minging). The music side was a large black painted room, which twice a month revamped it self into 'SUPERSONIC'

Flaps could frequently be spotted lying unconscious in the car park while Bubbles was often seen propped up at the bar talking absolute gobshite. Bubbles mate 'Freezin Trish' - braces on teeth and hair in braids (this was the late 90's) - F***in' hated it!

O' Neils
Green Man Roundabout, Leytonstone, London, E11

(Public House & Auditorium)

Reviewed by Bubbles and Flaps Up

Only to be entered when already very very drunk! The pub that everyone swears they will not go to but inevitably always end up.
Open late, lets anyone in and only a small entrance fee. Bubbles & Trish can be frequently found here due to excessive alcohol intake - dancing round the bare dance floor and shaking that 'ting'.

Ye Old Rose & Crown
Hoe Street, Walthamstow, London, E17

(Public House)

Reviewed by Bubbles and Flaps Up

This pub is decorated with suits of armour and swords - very fitting really.  It makes a valid attempt to sell Real Ales - such as IPA and London Pride, but most of the customers tend to opt for the 'fizzy' lager. This pub boasts two pool tables.

The Chequers
The High Street, Walthamstow, London, E17

(Public House)

Reviewed by Bubbles and Flaps Up

Possibly one of the roughest pubs in Walthamstow. Once again this pub boasts two pool tables. Quite spacious, situated in the middle of the legendary mile long Walthamstow Market - opposite a sausage shop. Bubbles and her sister would spend many hours in this pub laughing hysterically as they made up fatty & skinny jokes.
